Happy Summer Cape families!
We hope you are having a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer vacation, with plenty of time to read your Summer Reading Book Group selection.
We are excited about the wide range of titles that teachers offered for summer reading choices. Students selected their top choices and were then organized into groups that will meet in September. Not sure what group you are in? Final assignments are posted in the secure documents below.
Many students were able to borrow copies of these books from our school libraries. However, if you are still looking for a copy please visit Thomas Memorial Library or check their Minerva online catalog for availabilities in Cape and from libraries throughout the state. You may also find ebook versions of Summer Reading titles from Overdrive in our Destiny online catalog. For directions on how to access and use our Overdrive account, please check out the eBook resources page of this site.
If you are looking for a great Independent Reading Book at the CEMS LLC, here are two places you might look:
The Newbery Medal and Honors have been given every year since 1922 to honor “the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.”
Click here to check out the list of medalists and honorees. Look for the “John Newbery Award” spine label and/or the gold or silver medal on the cover.
You may also want to take a look at the Maine Student Book Award website for other great titles. That list is available HERE and we have a big display of them right inside the front door. You can also scan the QR codes you see on the Digital Picture Frames to learn more about the MSBA titles.
As this post is composed, Cape Elizabeth building and maintenance crews are hard at work making improvements to our library space so that we can more fully realize our vision of an innovative, open-access, student-centered learning commons for our school community.
The freshly painted walls, beautiful carpeting and tile flooring, comfortable and mobile workstations, customized space-saving shelving, new audio/visual presentation system, and information center desks are made possible by generous funding from the Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation.
We are immensely grateful to CEEF for their commitment to supporting the educational growth of our students. The renovated Cape Middle School Library and Learning Commons promises to provide an inviting, inspiring, and informative experience for all who visit. Thank you CEEF!
